Up-and-coming gelding Daymo moved a step closer to earning a spot on Chris Waller’s autumn team with a determined win at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Lining up for just his sixth start, Daymo camped off the hot early speed and when produced by jockey Glyn Schofield he balanced up and gave chase to Racing Eight, forging clear to score a 1-1/4-length victory.

His win in the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1600m) was his first in town and Waller would like him to repeat the effort before considering an autumn carnival campaign.
“It’s probably a bit ambitious to put him out for the carnival now on the back of one Saturday win,” Waller said.
“He probably needs to do it again.”
Waller is keen to step Daymo up to 2000 metres and says the three-year-old is still on a steep learning curve.
“He showed a bit last preparation but he was very immature so we gave him a shorter break and brought him back now,” Waller said.
“He’s started to put these wins together and today was a good step in the right direction.”
Daymo was easy in betting, drifting from $3.60 to start $4.40, but had too much in hand for Racing Eight ($4.40) who fought on bravely after being involved in the early speed battle, with Burnout ($3.60 fav) running on for third another neck away.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Blended was crunched from $6 in to $4 but wilted to run last after leading.
